Of Ghosts and Ghouls: Anglo-Indian Ghost Stories [Catherina Moss]

Banshees, churails, poltergeists, and spectres dominate Catherina Moss’s collection of folk tales drawn from her Anglo-Indian community. Whether it is a new boarder at a prestigious school discovering something amiss about one of the nuns, or a motorcyclist having to keep his wits about him when he realises his passenger is not quite human, Moss’s characters offer a rare glimpse into the lives of a people whose stories are such an intrinsic part of the fabric of modern India. These tales—hitherto transmitted orally—have finally been collected in this volume, for both the Anglo-Indian reader, for whom this world and its quirks evoke pleasures of familiarity and nostalgia, as well as the general reader simply looking for a thrilling ghost story.
